En quelques mots

Les gars d’Amanita Bloom m’ont offert ce ‘long-jeu’ pour me remercier d’avoir travaillé sur la pochette de leur album ‘Furniture Music’ (Gatefold LP & CD) à parraitre sur Machette (fin Octobre).  Tout à fait dans le ton.  Un réel plaisir.  Mes sentiments les meilleurs.

THE OCCULT EXPLOSION

Interviews with some of America’s leading occult spokes’men and women in their respective fields, explaining their work in their own voices, with a narrative which weaves it all together in an illuminating whole.

Experts cover topics such as Astrology, Yoga, Mysticism, UFO’s, Withcraft, Satanism, Reincarnation, ESP, Psychic Phenomena, Spiritualism, Indian Magic, and Meditation.

This recording is based on Nat Freedland’s book of the same name. Released as a double LP record set in 1973. A tripped out Gatefold sleeve, incorporating a 12 page booklet (w. illus. by Wilfried Satty), written by Freedland, a former LA Free Press columnist. Recordings feature interviews with, among others, Anton Szandor LaVey (Satanism), Alan Watts (Meditation), Thelma Moss (ESP), the artist/illustrator Satty, and two “Satanic inspired rock recordings” by British rockers Black Widow. These two tracks are satanic rock at its finest! HAIL SATAN!

Présentée en collaboration avec le magazine britannique The Wire, cette vitrine vous donnera la chance de vivre deux expériences uniques à travers des prestations d’artistes britanniques de l’underground post-industriel que nous avons trop rarement l’occasion de voir en concert. Évoquant à la fois une obsédante « éthéréalité » et des sonorités d’un fossé générationnel, ce programme se veut également un regard sur des artistes expérimentaux qui réinterprètent les trésors oubliés de leur culture.

La soirée s’ouvre avec FREIDA ABTAN, qui traite sa propre voix afin de créer une performance audiovisuelle sans pareil. Elle sera suivie de James Leyland Kirby, d’abord connu sous le pseudonyme de V/Vm, dont les oeuvres sont tout aussi pertinentes que méconnues. Cet ex-terroriste du copyright et désormais figure de proue de la mouvance hauntology sévira sous son pseudonyme THE CARETAKER pour cette performance en direct des plus rares où on pourra le voir manipuler des vieux disques 78 tours de musique de salle de bal des années 20 et 30 afin de créer des atmosphères envoûtantes et hypnotiques. Il sera suivi du légendaire projet dark-ambient de Steven Stapleton, Nurse with Wound, pour un concert exclusif où nous pourrons découvrir l’étendue de son corpus qui va du drone-folk aux improvisations jazz-noir en passant par la poésie surréaliste.

‘The dreamachine (or dream machine) is a stroboscopic flicker device that produces visual stimuli. Artist Brion Gysin and William Burroughs’s “systems adviser” Ian Sommerville created the dreamachine after reading William Grey Walter’s book, ‘The Living Brain’.

In its original form, a dreamachine is made from a cylinder with slits cut in the sides. The cylinder is placed on a record turntable and rotated at 78 or 45 revolutions per minute. A light bulb is suspended in the center of the cylinder and the rotation speed allows the light to come out from the holes at a constant frequency of between 8 and 13 pulses per second. This frequency range corresponds to alpha waves, electrical oscillations normally present in the human brain while relaxing’ – WIKI
